The Science

Allowing Mother Nature
to do her thing

Plastic can last in our environment for hundreds, even thousands of years. Our revolutionary organic ingredient allows naturally occurring microorganisms in landfill, oceans and soil to consume the plastic.

The Products
  • Plastic biodegradation
    Did you know?
Mother nature has personally thanked us for BDP®?
  • How it works

BDP® is made of the organic nutrients and compounds that are food sources for microbes in nature. We add these nutrients to plastic, tricking the microbes into thinking its food. Once the plastic has been used, recycled and is thrown out these tiny bacteria eat it all up, leaving behind compost and biogas. The compost fertilizes the soil and the biogas can be captured and converted to natural gas.

    Plastic Polymer

    Let’s get technical

In a microbe-rich environment, BDP® attracts microbes and these microbes start colonizing on the surface of the plastic. The enzymes secreted by the microbes render the plastic hydrophilic (water-loving). As a result, a film (bio- film) which is rich in microbes and moisture forms on and adheres to the surface of the plastic. Microbes then hydrolyze the plastic using secreted enzymes and water. As the individual polymer chains are broken down into single monomers, the microbes consume the polymer matrix. During this process, the microbes send out a signal, attracting more microbes to feed on the plastic mass. At the end, most of the CO2 and other materials formed during the earlier stages are consumed, leaving behind mostly methane which is captured for clean energy.

    Frequently wondered questions

    Plastic Biodegradable

    How is it added
    to plastic?

    Super easily!

BDP® is a drop in polymer, added to the manufacturing process of products in the same way that colorant is added.

    Landfill Friendly Plastic

    Is it Recyclable?

    Yes!

BDP® treated plastics are completely recyclable and should always be recycled.

    Organic Polymers

    Does it cause microplastics?

    No!

Microbes are hungry and they don't leave food behind... and we have proof!

    Regenerative is better than Circular!

From manufacturing to consumer to end of life - this is what happens to plastic.

Manufacturing During regular manufacturing, BDP® is blended with plastic material. There is no change to the traditional manufacturing process thanks to BDP®'s ‘drop-in’ technology. It is added just like a colorant!

    Change Plastic For Good

Retail stores Buy your groceries and throw them in a BDP® bag.

    Change Plastic for Good biodegredation

Disposal After you unpack your groceries, return your bag or recycle it. Unfortunately not all people are as responsible as you are and these bags end up being thrown in the trash.

    Disposable Plastic Alternative
    Landfill Friendly Plastic Alternative

Landfill79% of all plastic sits in a landfill today and its most likely your bag will end up here too... or worse, in the ocean. At least your bag is made with BDP™!

    Organic Plastic

The Power of BDP® Within the next few years, your bag will become a source of food for microbes in the landfill or ocean, leaving behind no microplastics... just compost and natural gas which landfills collect as clean fuel.
